Cricket Bat-shaped Cake:
Fondant as required
Red food gel/colour few drops
Green food colour/gel a little
Yellow food colour/gel a little
Ingredients for Vanilla Sponge
Flour 2-1/2 cups
Sugar 2 cups
Baking powder 2-1/2 tsp
Salt 1/2 tsp
Vanilla essence 1 tbsp
Butter 1 cup
Milk 1 cup
For Buttercream Frosting
Butter 200 gm
Icing sugar 400 gm
Vanilla essence 1 tsp
Milk 2-3 tbsp (or as desired consistency)
Cream the butter and sugar until pale and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time. Add vanilla essence. In a separate bowl mix the flour, salt and baking powder.
Add this dry mix to the butter mixture, alternating with the cup of milk. Mix well. Pour in large square tin and bake at 180 degrees centigrade for 45 – 55 minutes.
For buttercream frosting, cream the butter and add the sugar 2-3 spoons at a time till the consistency is light and fluffy. Add the flavours and milk to butter and sugar to achieve a smooth texture.
Cut the cake in cricket bat shape, place on board and crumb coat with buttercream frosting. Put the cake in refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. Dust little flour on the counter, colour the fondant in red, green and yellow. Roll the fondant keeping in mind the size of the cake. Place cake on board and cover with fondant, place the cake and decorate your cake with fondant stars.
